How to get to Hella?
The Fjallabak summer base and warehouse is located in the small village of Hella on the ring road No.1, some 100 km southeast of Reykjavik, south of the Mount Hekla volcano.
You join us in Hella the morning of the departure of the trek or the day before by staying in Hella

There are several daily bus connections (Stræto in Icelandic) from Reykjavik bus station to Landeyjarhöfn, which is the pier for the Herjolfur ferry to the Westman Islands. From Mjódd, Line n°52 serves > Hveragerði > Selfoss > Hella > Hvollsvölur > Landeyjarhöfn
To get to the bus station
- By taxi 1 to 4 places booked the day before for 7:30 at the latest count about 4,500-5,500 ISK per trip (Approx. €30-35)
- By municipal bus at the latest at 7:20 from a bus stop near your accommodation in town on a line that ends in Mjódd: 650 ISK (approx. €5) for an adult aged 18 to 66 // -50% discount for seniors from 67 years old and for young people from 12 to 17 years old // Free for children up to 11 years old
To get to Hella:
On day 1 of the trek, bus 52 leaves Mjódd at 8:00 am and arrives at 9:22 am in Hella. We recommend that you arrive at the bus station at the latest 15 minutes before departure. The ticket is purchased from the driver on board the bus or at the ticket office at the bus station, paid in cash or with your credit card.
Price of the bus ticket to Hella (November 1, 2024): 4200 ISK (approx. €30) per person for an adult aged 18 to 66 // -50% discount for seniors aged 67 and over and for young people aged 12 to 17 // Free for children up to 11 years old

Departure from Mjódd at 15:15 arrival in Hella at 16:37.
Of course you can prefer to arrive in Hella the day before the trek starts, provided you have previously booked accommodation in this village.

Hótel Stracta located by the road N°1 is a modern hotel in a rather comfortable atmosphere which has a lot of different room types. The hotel is equipped with a sauna and hot tubs and a good restaurant.<
River Hotel located by the Rangá river which is famous for its salmon fishing. This hotel is very comfortable with beautiful and bright rooms with private facilities, a restaurant with a view over the river, a lounge bar and jacuzzis.
Hotel Arhús is also located by the Rangá river in a idyllic setting of greenery. The rooms are in small wooden cabins equipped with kitchenettes, private bathrooms and a restaurant by the river.
Hotel Hella in the center of the village, more classic, retro style, but clean and comfortable.
Guesthouse Nonni is a cosy and nice little B&B in the village.
